Greetings! Welcome to my personal website and blog.
My name is Daphne. I reside in southern Maine with my fiance, five ferrets and three cats. I am passionate about photography and photo editing, design, web development and social media.
My photography journey began in the late 90s with a simple point-and-shoot camera and a desire to capture life's moments as they happened around me. In 2006, I picked up a DSLR for the first time and took my first photos of ice dance and was immediately hooked. Much like life's moments, I found that by studying sports, I could anticipate and capture special moments within the performances.
Though I have never taken a photography class, I feel fortunate to have been mentored by several talented and gracious individuals who supported and nurtured my skill development as well as sharing their tips and techniques with me. Through time and practice, I've honed my craft and enjoy the challenge of capturing
moments that best represent whatever my subject is. I view each opportunity as a learning experience and look forward to continuing to challenge myself as much as possible.
I have always been passionate about many forms of design and the marriage of design and technology. In the late 90s, I created a website completely devoted to the sport of ice dance - ice-dance.com - that is still online today. Since that time, I learned additional HTML and CSS to build sites in Microsoft Front Page and then graduated to creating websites in Adobe GoLive and Dreamweaver. Since 2008, I have utilized online Content Management Systems (CMS) such as Wordpress or Joomla, however, DaphneBackman.com was build with Wix.
